Dear Friends,
The primary election is less than 3 weeks away. For the first time that I am aware of in any local election, legislation regarding grave moral issues of concern to all of us, is on the table. However, it will be left on the table if we do not hold our candidates to account.
In response to this challenge, Esperansa has prepared a survey we are sending to all the candidates. We are anticipating that due to the moral nature of the questions and the stance the candidates will have to take that many will not want to participate in this survey.
In order to "encourage" them to do so, we have advised them that the survey:
2. will be sent to approximately 1000 email addresses
3. will be posted on the PDN blogs
4. will be posted in the Pacific Voice (Archdiocese of Agana newspaper) on August 22
5. will be made available to Guam's media via a Press Release
We also encourage you to post this survey in whatever media is at your disposal, church newsletter, etc. Encourage your pastors to make it an issue. We can talk about issues without endangering our tax status. We just can't promote this or that candidate by name.
The candidates are given unto August 25 to submit their completed surveys. Their responses will be posted in the Pacific Voice on Sunday, August 29 and all of the above media already listed including a Press Release to the media.
If a candidate does not reply, he will have been advised that the words "did not participate" will appear next to his name, and we will assume a candidates refusal to participate or to choose yes or no is in fact their answer.
Public pressure is the only leverage we have. Your participation is critical. The best thing you can do is to forward this email and ask everyone to register their email at
www.esperansa.org.
In addition to the above media, we are considering posting the results of the survey in the PDN and Marianas Variety by way of purchasing advertising space if they are not willing to do a story. This will cost money, but we feel that there are enough of us willing to contribute a little that will cover the cost.
THIS ELECTION IS EXTREMELY CRITICAL. CHRISTIANS CANNOT IGNORE WHAT IS AT STAKE. For a copy of the survey, click

If you have personal contact with a candidate, you may want to speak with them about the survey. We must put PRINCIPLES OVER PARTY and FAITH OVER FRIENDS. It's up to us.
