Sadly my mom passed away Sept 14th from MDS. From her
diagnosis to her death was one year and two months.
We had a WONDERFUL time with her in hospice care. My
sister and I slept on the living room floor and enjoyed all ten days of hospice
with her.
The doctors thought she needed her gallbladder out, and her
blood never did coagulate due to the MDS. 21 days in the hospital, test
after test, blood transfusion, after blood transfusion but nothing was
helping. Very sad....but mom never complained and was alert and calm
until the day she went to sleep.
She slept peacefully for two days, and then went to
Heaven.
There is SO MUCH we did not know about this condition.
We tried to educate the surgeon that her platelets were only 37 - not acceptable
for surgery. But he knew we were not nurses or doctors and really didnt
listen. After it was clear that mom's body was not recovering ...the
Surgeon came in and said " I really didn't understand how serious her platelet
issue was." But why didnt our oncologist educate
him? Our oncologist gave permission for the surgery. All very
sad. We are not angry, for we know she would have died within a few months
anyway, and she was at peace that we had done EVERYTHING the doctors
recommended, we tried everything.....so she was able to rest knowing she had a
higher appointment.
Please keep educating and learning.
