It's a cold cold night here in San Francisco. I can't think of a better
way to warm up then by snuggling up to glow of the computer monitor to
write yall this note. I got a show coming up on thursday, which I will
tell you about in just a second.
I'm still recovering from the life-changing pilgrimage I made last week
to see Tom Waits in Chicago. Pure mysterious genius. The man dances
with his influences but never takes them home. He needs not the
gimmicks that frame most concert experiences... just enough light to
see the band and his body contorting every which way in between the
weathered howls does the rest.
The most moving moment came when he played "Day After Tomorrow" for his
first encore... a song of a solider trying to make sense of the world
in the midst of war:
"You can't deny
The other side
Don't want to die
Any more than we do
What I'm trying to say,
Is don't they pray
To the same God that we do?"
There wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Alright, sorry to get sappy on ya .
If you are able, come on this Thursday night. I'll be playing at the
Red Vic Bed and Breakfast.
Cheers,
Ledbetter
