I've been asked to accompany our youth group singing Hicks' "As Sisters in Zion /We'll Bring the World His Truth" on organ instead of piano. I be sat in a couple of lectures about rendering piano music on organ, but I've avoided it so far.

Has anyone done that yet for this piece? Ideas?

Here's my paste up. It's not very clear, but I recommend doing something like this. Unfortunately, I didn't mark it up much, and it's been many years since I played it.

On the intro, I played the first note sustained in the pedal, sustained the left hand throughout each measure as the notes played, but didn't sustain the right hand notes (but you could).

In measure 9, I sustained the Bb in the pedal (in the proper octave) without repeating every measure. I judiciously tied notes throughout that section.

The section starting at measure 24 is like the intro. At 32 continue with the bass clef as before.

In measure 68 I added middle C.

Measure 118 I added E and G on beat one, then didn't play the G in the left hand (hit a piston instead). Measure 119 I took the chord down an octave on beat 1.

Measure 156 I played the D up an octave with my right toe on beat two (frees up a hand for a registration change). As the harmonies changed more often between 157 and 170, I changed pedal notes as the music seemed to suggest, usually on the & of 3.

I hope this makes sense! Looking at my copy, I'd mark it more clearly now. Email me if you want more help. I can record some of it, if you want some aural help.

Thank you, Jennifer! Your input is right along the same lines I was thinking. I'll take it to the organ today.

Turns out, they weren't bent on organ accompaniment. I may keep it on piano, but I'll play with it on organ. We'll see

It's fun on the organ and not too difficult. My vote is for organ. :)
