Dear Sir,

It is almost a year now since the Gall Ghaidhealaibh (The Galloway
Gaelic group) was set up by a small group of Gaelic enthusiasts in
this area. Galloway Gaelic died in this part of Scotland over 200
years ago,. Yet according to research carried out by Dr. John
Macinnes in Arran for the School of Scottish Studies, in the 1960's
there was a strong perception amongst its speakers that Galloway and
indeed the SW coast of Scotland generally were in fact very much a
part of the Gaidhealtachd, (the Gaelic speaking area). In the 21st
Century the Galloway Gaelic group does not just include learners from
the Machars, the Rhins and the Stewartry. It also attracts members
from further afield such as Ayr and Girvan, thus reflecting on both
the commitment and interest that there is in acquiring Gaelic.

The group takes it's leads to learning the language from the work of
Finlay M Macleod's "Total Immersion Plus" (TIP) method of language
learning, known as"Gaelic in the Home." With little or no knowledge
of grammar or need for translation TIP's aim is to bring learners to
fluency in under 200 hours.

Our group led as usual by Dr. Neil Brown of Girvan will after the
Summer break again hold our regular Tuesday night sessions.
September 4th . onwards at the Bruce Hotel , 88 Queen's Street
Newton Stewart. Time: 6-45.pm - 9.pm

And from September 11th to the 14th 2007 there will be an intensive 4
day course in the Bruce Hotel. Price £10 per person per day to cover
teas, coffees and lunch.

Why not phone 01988 402133 for further details or send an e-mail to
in...@byrebooks.co.uk if you are at all interested? Everyone from
complete beginners with no Gaelic at all, to advanced and native
speakers will all be made most welcome!

We hope to see you there!

Crisdean Higham.
