Hello All

I am writing to bring you up-to-date with progress on restoring the upper end of the Le Roys Bush Reserve just below Highbury. You may be aware that this area was seriously overgrown with invasive weeds and strewn with rubbish.

If you look out at the bush to the east of Highbury, you will see that a lot of weeds in the area of the reserve to the south of 266-270 Onewa Road have now been cleared.

This work has been undertaken by contractors employed by our group thanks to grants received from the Auckland Regional Council's Environmental Initiatives Fund and from the Birkenhead/Northcote Community Board. Our thanks also go to property owners who have allowed us access to the reserve and who are assisting us with clearing pest plants such as pampas, ginger and gorse from private property.

We cordially invite you to a public planting day on Saturday 20 June from 9.30 to 11.30am as the first step in making the outlook from Birkenhead Avenue and Onewa Road more attractive.  Initially native grasses and shrubs will be the main species planted to help manage erosion and minimise the risk of weeds re-growing.  Further information is available on our website -http://groups.google.com/group/LeRoys-Bush-and-Little-Shoal-Bay/web/recent-activity-east-of-highbury.  Notices will be circulated with further details nearer the time - but please mark this date in your diary.

We would welcome input and feedback from local residents and tenants.  Please pass on this invitation to your families, friends, and workmates to come and help on the planting day and with removing rubbish from the site.  We would also welcome active support from local businesses - please contact me if you can help.

If you would like to take an active role in preparing for this planting day,  please get in touch with me by email or by phone on 480 9233 (evenings or weekend) or 021 240 9414.

Yours sincerely
