Hi All

Just to let you know that some local residents asked if we would organise an informal ramble through Le Roys Bush to give a gentle introduction to the pest plants which are intruding on the reserve and risk crowding out native trees and plants.

If you have an hour spare this Sunday (7 December) we would love to see you.  Meet at the entrance to Le Roys Bush next to 133 Hinemoa Street at 10am.

If we don't see you this Sunday, can we take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the festive season and the summer holidays.

Very best wishes

Keith - for Carol and other committee members of the Le Roys Bush and Little Shoal Bay Management Committee

PS A few news items for the year's end:
  • our last committee meeting for the year is on Tuesday 16 December at 7.30 - if you would like to join us, you would be most welcome - just email and we will send you the agenda
  • the ARC awarded our group a $3750 EIF award to support our campaign to eliminate wattles which are spreading badly through the Little Shoal Bay wetland - you will hear more about this soon
  •  the NSCC sponsored programme for preliminary control of weeds in Le Roys Bush is progressing well - you may notice that ginger, wandering dew and other pest plants have been tackled
  •  planting is being planned for the East of Highbury project and for the area inside the Onewa Road entrance to the bush for next autumn - get in touch if you would like to be involved
  •  the working bees organised by Bridget on the wetland border below 60 Maritime Tce have made tremendous progress - see the website for before and after photos
  •  attached is a small photo of this month's pest around Le Roys Bush - Chinese Privet which is flowering now and will be seeding soon; many thanks to those local residents who are removing it from their garden; both Chinese and Tree Privet spread rapidly into other gardens and into the reserve and are also an annoying cause of allergies.
