We will soon have new batches of lamb sausages and are making plans for new beef sausages to be made. Let us know if you’d like to see any changes in our flavor offerings.
Next week the butcher will be processing several beef for us. This will be our meat supply for August and September. If you would like to see anything in particular-extra lean burger, high fat burger, very thick steaks, extra-large roasts, whole briskets, tenderloin roasts, etc please let us know ASAP. Our next opportunity to have specialty items cut will be late September for delivery in October.
We are thankfully thru the hay cutting and baling stage and John and Tom are now busily moving the bales into stacks. The pace of things is a bit more reasonable again. Due to struggles with our old baler a lot of our hay was baled by a contract baler. It is bad for the budget but good for our mental and physical health to have the work completed so quickly, and by someone else.
The kids and I made the most of not going to market on the 2nd by going camping with John’s sister’s family. We only spent about 24 hrs out and didn’t do much more than set up, prepare our food, sleep, prepare food, tear down but it was great to get away. We also did our share to keep the mosquito population well fed, despite our best attempts to deny them. We got back in time to rub shoulders with a great many of our Lau cousins who had come to Soda Springs for a reunion.
On the 4th,Tom’s FFA group aided the community by putting up and taking down the bounce houses in the park, and earned themselves several hundred dollars in the process. Becca’s high school cheer group herded their mini cheer camp participants along the parade route without too much drama-also a fund raiser for their group. John cooked a zillion pancakes and grilled a bunch of hamburgers for the Lion’s Club breakfast and lunch. I ran herd on some younger nieces and nephews of the extended clan, washed the Lion’s Club dishes, and enjoyed a more laid back 4th than usual. Our good friends the Oxarango’s were in town so we visited with them before and during the firework display.
We continued our break with reality with a short trip to Bear Lake with friends on Tuesday. Becca would have been the only girl so she went boating with her girlfriends family on the reservoir and Tom and I went another direction for a few hours. It’s fun to see high school boys playing in the sand just like they did a decade ago!
I decided to give my full time bum (bottle) lamb “Abby” to my friend Judy to simplify life. The kids are pretty good about feeding the calf, but groused about feeding the lamb twice a day for some reason. Abby had also developed a sore foot and it was hard on her to travel with the group of ewes and lambs out to feed and back to water. I know Judy will take great care of her, and if she needs antibiotics for her sore foot, Judy has the time to keep track of the dosing schedule. Abby won’t need milk too much longer, and hopefully she’ll make Judy some money when she sells her down the road. Judy saves lambs like no one else but she’s in her 60’s and on a fixed income and I don’t think the lambs even pay their own bills.
Becca’s softball team wrapped up their season last week, with games Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Becca didn’t play as much as she would have liked but she did get a run or two in the tournament games last week. Her team ended up getting 2nd place in the league tournament. Football camp, and running camp are coming up, as are the county fair. My older brother arrives Sunday for a 3 week visit with my father, and my younger brother will come for 3 days next week too. Pretty soon it will be August and school will be back in session.
Many thanks for your business,
John, Lori Anne, Tom and Becca Lau
