NEWS/UPDATES

Change our Name? Yay or Nay?

Our parent organization, Seattle Neighborhood Greenways, will change its name to Seattle Streets Alliance in Feb 2026. As a local group, we can rebrand along with them or keep our name. We do have to let them know our intention by Dec 15, though we can figure out the details later. Please fill out this survey so we know how the majority of this group feels! Poll closes Dec 14 at midnight so we can meet their deadline. More info on the new Seattle Streets Alliance name change >

35th Ave NE Walking Tour recap

image.jpeg

On Nov. 9, about 10 neighbors gathered at Erickson Pl NE and 35th Ave NE for a walking tour hosted by Darby and attended by Rahi Patel of SDOT. Rahi was able to observe the street and driver behavior as well as hear from residents. We learned about different kinds of methods for traffic calming and also heard that residents of Little Brook kept reporting issues to Google Maps, which Rahi thinks has helped some.

He also shared that SDOT recognizes the tension of keeping traffic low on neighborhood streets and forcing arterials to bear all the brunt of high traffic and therefore tries to pair projects. So if there's a project to keep people from using a quiet street as a cut-through, they would also work on making the arterial safer or more pleasant.

If you would like to host a similar walking tour of your street, let’s talk!

A reminder that we try to reserve this Google Group for announcements that need wide distribution, like meeting notices, event updates and major news. For more specific conversations and topic-based discussions, we’ll use Discord instead. This allows us to be more organized, keep the emails to a minimum, and communicate easier with the other neighborhood groups.

You can join the general Discord chat with this invite link. We’ll create additional channels as we get started on projects and form committees!

Thank you El for this great newsletter.
Reading this there is one correction and I should have seen it earlier - 35th Ave NE is in Cedar Park, not Little Brook.  Cedar Park neighbors have been speaking out about this for a long time and we all hope to see some improvements before long.

Hi, Muriel. Sorry that was confusing. I did not mean to imply that 35th Ave NE is in Little Brook. I was trying to say that Rahi told us that the residents of Little Brook did report issues to Google Maps and it made a difference. So that's something that this neighborhood, the neighborhood of Cedar Park, could also consider.

Thanks for reading the newsletter!

Thank you for clarifying that!  Many people don't realize that we can "correct" Google Maps.
