DAVIS PROJECTS FOR PEACE

http://www.davisprojectsforpeace.org/

Campus Submission Deadline: 15 December 2008

Lafayette College students are invited to participate in Davis Projects for Peace program. This is an opportunity for you (individually or as small groups) to design grassroots "projects for peace." The top 100 submissions nationally will be granted $10,000 each towards the implementation of the awarded project during the summer of 2009.

In 2007 and 2008 Lafayette students received funding from the Davis Projects for Peace program for projects in Honduras and Kenya, respectively. Your project may be the next Lafayette project for peace to receive funding!

PROJECTS FOR PEACE

There are no specific guidelines. Use your imagination and your strengths, visions and dreams. But also realize your financial and time limitations: $10,000 for a project conducted during summer 2009.  You must define a "project for peace" on your own terms. The Projects for Peace grant is designed to encourage your creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Projects may be conducted anywhere worldwide, including as close to home as Easton, PA or as far afield as Antarctica.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Lafayette students from all classes (first year through senior year) are eligible. Seniors would complete their projects after graduation.
  • You may submit a proposal to be conducted individually/on your own OR you may submit a proposal where a group of you are involved in the project.
  • You may only work with other Lafayette students and not with students from other universities or colleges.

PROJECT FUNDING

  • Funding per project is limited to $10,000.
  • Projects with larger budgets are welcome as is co-funding from other sources (such as other philanthropists, foundations, NGOs/PVOs, private/personal funds, etc.).

PROPOSALS

Prepare and submit the following information to Dean Goldberg (gold...@lafayette.edu) no later than 15 December 2008:

(1) A written statement not to exceed 2 pages in length describing the project (who, what, where, how, why), the project's expected outcomes, and the project's prospects for future impact.

(2) A budget (one page).

Please Note: Proposals should include pre-approval of all involved parties and organizations involved in the project.

SUBMISSION AND JUDGING OF PROPOSALS

Each proposal must be submitted electronically to Dean Goldberg (gold...@lafayette.edu) by 15 December 2008.

  • Lafayette will submit up to 3 proposals for consideration by the UWC Scholars office. If your project is selected, you will have time to refine it prior to official submission by February 16, 2009.

Reports of previous Projects for Peace are available on the program's website (www.kwd100projectsforpeace.org/) "for all to see and learn from."

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact or make an appointment to meet with Dean Goldberg at gold...@lafayette.edu or 610.330.5080 ext. 5521.
