Maybe things are changing for the better in Braintree. According to
the Ledger of January 21, 2009, under the heading "Vacation, sick time
rules changed for management" it was stated "In the past, management
employees were allowed to accrue an unlimited number of sick days, and
upon retiring would receive up to 25% of their salary for unused sick
days. The mayor told the council this often resulted in a retirement
bonus in the range of thousands of dollars for each manager. With the
exception of a few employees grandfathered as part of the former
policy, the change caps sick leave accrual at 90 days. The policy also
eliminates the sick leave buy-out benefit, which will also
save the town money.
In addition, management employees were able to carry over 50 vacation
days from one year to the next. Vacation carry-over will now be capped
at 15 days."
This policy affects approximately twenty management employees.
It could be worse. READ: Mayor Koch
