Hi Matt,
I have actually moved to New York! But I am forwarding your email to the Labor Radio list to see if whoever's hosting first Mondays these days -- I think that's Mic Crenshaw? -- has space for you.
Solidarity,
Al

Hi Al -

I was wondering if we could get Kory Quinn in-studio with you on Monday, 11/5, to help promote this fantastic Election Night show we're going at the Alberta Rose...

Thanks,
Matt

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ALBERTA ROSE THEATRE HOSTS THE BEST ELECTION NIGHT COVERAGE IN PORTLAND

Tue, Nov 6 - FREE! - Watch Presidential Election Results with Fast Rattler, David Rovics, Kory Quinn, Mono Operandi - Art Show Curated by Chris Haberman -
and Many Surprises!

Portland, OR - October 3, 2012 - Whether you're red with anger or a true blue-blood, we're all in it together and on November 6, Election Day, we make our voices heard as a nation.  The Alberta Rose Theatre (3000 NE Alberta St.) is hosting a FREE community celebration of democracy in action.  Doors will open at 5:30pm for an art show curated by Chris Haberman ("the hardest working artist in Portland" - Sam Adams).  West Coast polls close at 7pm, and that's when the music will kick off with Kory Quinn (often referred to as the spiritual heir to Woody Guthrie).  Other musicians on the bill include the one-man band Mono Operandi, David Rovics ("the musical version of 'Democracy Now'" - Amy Goodman) and Fast Rattler, lead by Utah Phillips' son Brendan Phillips.  Election coverage and results will be projected (and perhaps improvised to) throughout the night, and additional surprises will unfurl like Old Glory waving in the breeze.  This is an all-ages event and is FREE for all Americans (also free for non-Americans, too) who want to come cheer, or lament, the results of the 2012 Presidential Election.

FAST RATTLER
(www.fastrattler.com)
Portland's Fast Rattler made their record debut on the 2009 Grammy-nominated album "Singing Through the Hard Times: A Tribute to Utah Phillips" which included artists like Emmylou Harris, Ani DiFranco, Pete Seeger and Tom Paxton.  Since then the group, fronted by Utah's son, Brendan Phillips, has continued to record and perform both well-known and obscure songs culled from the Phillips songbook (and in some cases, to write tunes for previously unrecorded lyrics).

DAVID ROVICS
(www.davidrovics.com)
David Rovics grew up in a family of classical musicians in Wilton, Connecticut, and became a fan of populist regimes early on. By the early 90's he was a full-time busker in the Boston subways and by the mid-90's he was traveling the world as a professional flat-picking rabble-rouser. These days David lives in Portland, Oregon and tours regularly on four continents, playing for audiences large and small at cafes, pubs, universities, churches, union halls and protest rallies. He has shared the stage with a veritable who's who of the left in two dozen countries, and has had his music featured on Democracy Now!, BBC, Al-Jazeera and other networks. His essays are published regularly on CounterPunch and elsewhere, and the 200+ songs he makes available for free on the web have been downloaded more than a million times. Most importantly, he's really good. He will make you laugh, he will make you cry, he will make the revolution irresistible.

KORY QUINN
(www.reverbnation.com/koryquinn)
Kory Quinn is a writer of personal experience and a singer of cross-country adventure, frequently woven into a prayer rug of justice and unrepentant (gasp) Eugene V. Debs-style Socialism.  With a hobo twang sharp as a 9-ball break, Kory Quinn effectively transposes the eternal troubadours like Woody Guthrie, Ramblin' Jack Elliot and Bob Dylan into Twenty-Twelve.  A prolific songwriter, Kory has released five albums - "Angels & Outlaws," "Waitin' for a Train," "The Drifter," "Bound for Glory," and "Shoes of the Dead," all available for download at Bandcamp.com

MONO OPERANDI
(www.facebook.com/monooperandi)
Mono Operandi is the one-man band brainchild of Portland musician Jeff Holt (Wanderlust Circus Orchestra, Juan Prophet Organization, Heroes & Villains). Using a skillful arrangement of pots, pans and other clanky percussion bits, along with his accordion, Mono Operandi is an eye-popping theatrical and sonic experience.  ("A mechanical-device-driven one-man-band and his mechanized accordion contraptions offer an air of the carnivalesque..." - Xerposa.com)
