Labor Radio folk,

Anyone available to go to KBOO board meeting on Monday evening? (6pm at the station;  public comment is first)

Someone needs to ask the board if they intend to recognize the staff union and begin bargaining (or whether they will force an election).  See email below from husband of Kathleen Stephenson (am news director).

I can fill you in on the details --

Solidarity!

Gentlemen:

It occurred to me after I saw you yesterday that someone needs to ask the Board
at next Monday's Board meeting (6 pm at the station)

if they intend to voluntarily recognize the employees' request to unionize.

In that way they can't continue to say that noone has told them that the
employees turned in their cards, etc. and also, if they fail to act to recognize
the employees' request, that fact can be included in emails to interest KBOO
members.

I have thought of going to the meeting and asking this question myself,
but I have to acknowledge that would be dismissed as self-interested and might
bring negative attention toward Kathleen.

Do you know of someone we could ask to go and pose the question?

Thanks

Gene Bradley

I’ll be at the station doing our show live, so can’t help during, but could be available some beforehand, if there’s an informal aspect to this.  Spoke with Kathleen briefly at the Troublemakers School Saturday.

Just confirmed as the show’s guest the president of the Communications, Energy, and Paperworkers Union of Canada, a union that opposes the Keystone XL pipeline and advocates for a low-carbon economy, though many of its members work in the fossil fuel sector.

Jaimie,

Is there a way to have a quick informational meeting about everything that is going on? We spoke briefly about this on the phone yesterday. I'd like more info, not as an excuse to not support. I'm just interested in how this all started.
