My name is Michael Kazin, and I used to be president of the LUG at
Rutgers. I came down to attend a few of the first meetings at the Shore
LUG.
I'm glad to see activity in the Shore LUG, and wanted to forward this
notice regarding two events being run by RUSLUG in the coming week, which
may interest someone.
Glenn- the Installfest would be a great time to visit RUSLUG, meet the new
officers and see if you can work with them on joint events, sharing
lecturers, etc. Also, we throw a decent Installfest, so you might pick
up a tip or two about them, for when you'll have your own. If you have
any place to advertise, I'm sure they'd be glad for the extra attendees.
Michael

Subject: [Ruslug-list] RUSLUG Installfest and Newbie Night
Dear Friends:
The Rutgers Students Linux User Group (RUSLUG) is pleased to invite you to
two special events, titled "Installfest" and "Newbie Night".
The first event is our Install-fest, and will take place on Sunday, November
5th, 2006 from 12pm-6pm. Here we will assist attendees in installing Linux
on their computer. It's a day-long celebration of Linux and freedom of
choice. And pizza. Lots of pizza. And coffee and donuts in the morning. And
perhaps cookies. Well, you get the
picture. If you don't want to install, just come and see how easy it is to
get Linux installed, and hang out with us. Come whenever and for however
long as you like, but if bringing a computer, please make sure we'll have
plenty of time to get it done and get you familiarized (1-2 hours at the
least). One more note: if you live on campus but do not wish to bring your
computer by yourself, we will have a few cars helping bring and return them
to your dorms. Contact offi...@ruslug.rutgers.edu to arrange a pickup and
dropoff.
In the second event is Newbie Night, held on Tuesday November 7, 2006
at 9pm-11pm,
we will showcasing modern-day Linux as a viable operating system for the
everyday user and some basic functions and functionality of it. This is a
great opportunity to see Linux running and doing everything you need from
your computer- from surfing the Internet to doing you homework. We will, of
course, hold a question-and-answer session to answer at both the beginning
and the end, also if you have a question during a presentation don't be
afraid to ask. Come hungry: free pizza(!!!) will be served and Linux CDs
will be handed out. Please let me know of any special dietary needs you may
have.
We will be hosting the event in our usual meeting location: the EIT lab
(room D110 in the Engineering complex on Busch). It's tricky to get to, so
we'll have posters all over the place. Start at the main entrance to the
Engineering building or in the student center and follow the signs. See the
following link to get a general idea of where it is:

More information will be made available on our website at:
http://ruslug.rutgers.edu/
, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
We hope to see you there,
Kira Morrow

Looks like I'm free tomorrow so I will drive up to the Installfest and
say hello. I'm also thinking of bringing a Pentium II and use a Debian
install to set it up as an apache server. What would I need to bring...
other than the 'box'? Also, is the installfest at the Rutgers Student
Center -- ie where I met you last time?
It will be good to meet again.
Glenn
I'm not Mike, but I think I can answer your questions.

We have VGA monitors, 10/100 Base-T ethernet with RJ-45 connectors,
standard power cords, keyboards, and mice. I believe the keyboards and
mice have PS/2 connectors.
We will probably have or be able to burn any distribution mirrored[1] on
RUSLUG's server.

The InstallFest is directly across the street from the Busch campus
student center in the EIT lab, Engineering D-110. The RUSLUG officers
have promised to post signs with directions in the student center and at
the entrances to the EIT building. If you can't find it, call my cell
(609) 230-9788, and I'll come find you.
I look forward to seeing you,
-Dave

Glenn- the Busch campus center Dave mentioned is not the campus center you
met us at last year. This one is on Busch campus, which is further up
route 18, accross the Raritan river.
I've updated the directions page located here:

See you there,
Michael
It was nice seeing you folks. Hopefully things will gell down here on
the Jersey Shore and the LUG will take a new and active form. I will
try to make it to upcoming RUSLUG meetings.
See you all soon,
Glenn
