This feels trivial in view of so many difficult vents for everyone, individually and nationally, but I just sent in my absentee vote and hope that it will count for something.

I’m very happy that you voted, Kathy.  When Wicky was first hospitalized on Sept. 13, I printed out an absentee ballot form about 10 days later.  Wicky said she wanted to vote by absentee ballot.  Everything went downhill after that and Wicky never got to vote again.  In the final paragraph of her biography, Wicky states that she wants all young people to be educated and to vote.

That is heartbreaking, just heartbreaking.. You are not sounding hopeful about her possible recovery.  Facing the loss of someone you deeply love is so hard. Love to you and your family,
Kathy

Thanks, Kathy.  I’m reliving memories of our life together, particularly when we were young and passionately in love.  I just loved Wicky’s long dark pony tail.  Even to the very end when Wicky was so sick and her hair was thinning, she still wore her silver white hair in a bun.

Ken,

Yes, it could be no other way.

I have not relived such memories in a long while. .  . .

When Anne died, the nurses had braided her thin blonde hair into two very narrow pigtails, something she would not have liked at all.  But she was sent straight to the funeral people from the ICU and I could not undo the braids.  I have always greatly regretted that.   Children’s’ Hospital would not let her younger sister in to see her while she was alive because they felt all the tubes she was hooked up to would frighten Caroline.  So they removed the tubes after Anne was gone and finally let her sister see her when she was blue and you could not talk to her.  That was a very wrong decision and made losing Anne even more difficult for her little sister. I now feel that you should listen well and trust people when they tell you how they feel, even, or maybe especially, children. In those days, children were not well heard.

It was all so unexpected and we did not want to lose Anne, none of us did.  I would have given anything to have her back.  Anything.  Even just on life support, which I now feel would have been futile in the long run and even more difficult.  Friends and family were very comforting. But it is not easy when it is so deep.

Kathy
