What you also could do is add breakpoints or lr_abort() calls at
specific points, just before the hang. That way at least you'll have
some logging output to investigate what is going on at that specific
location in your script.
The other thing you might do is turn off the fancy gizmos: the
run-time viewer, the 'animated run' option, and set it to script view
rather than tree view.
