Hi All,

This is Rao i am facing another different problem in my project.

My application environment is java, j2ee, Jboss(Application
Server),Oracle(DB Server) & Unix Server.
Unfortunately we do not have a Performance Business Analyst and
Performance manager to guide us.

The problem is we no need to decide which monitoring tool we have to
use for monitoring purpose and management asking to me what is the
solution either u will go with tool or u can monitor by using Unix
scripts &RSTAT Daemon?

If choose tool or UNIX scripts for monitoring purpose I need to
justify to my management team and business.
I am requesting you could please guide me I have to go with a tool or
UNIX scripting and justification as well. (Example if I choose site
scope/wily they might be question tool is bit of expensive why can’t
test with UNIX scripting tool?)

I am seeking your help to resolve the above mentioned problems please
help me.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.
Thanks,
Rao

Uhmmmmm....500 points of SiteScope ships with LoadRunner for use in monitoring. You clearly are challenged in product and process. Your management had out you in a position where you lack the fundamental skills to be succesful.

Return to your management with this insight, their actions run counter to their fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interest of the investers.

RE: iostat,vmstat,…..and what do you think SiteScope is calling under the covers to pull back the stats that it does?

Your options

1. Direct rstatd monitoring (if that is enough) (works only for OS metrics)
2. Sitescope monitoring (LR comes wiht a 500pt license)
3. An external monitoring tool whose data you can parse later on and import - In my present gig that is being done via Wily Introscope and the data is imported later at will.

Rao, do you have LoadRunner? If yes, then you are entitled to use
Sitescope for free up to 500 points. You can also use the built in
performance monitors. Of course I am assuming you are looking for
monitoring solutions to use during a performance test. If you are
looking for something more general purpose, you will have to weigh the
pros and cons of each tool. In my opinion, Sitescope is easy to use
and affordable. Best of all, you don't need to install an agent on
every monitored machine. I know this is a debatable topic, but having
managed monitoring for a very large financial institution for a few
years, I can tell you agents are time consuming and problematic.

Best of luck!
