Greetings! My name is Hawk McFadzen (they/themme). I am a student at CSU Fullerton in the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program.

You are invited to participate in a study that will assess LGBTQIA+ employees’ experiences at their workplace in the California Community Colleges (CCC). The purpose of the study is to collect descriptions of discrimination and/or support based on sexual orientation and gender identity including how they intersect with race, ethnicity, and ability status. The volunteer form should take less than 3 minutes to complete.

Participants must be at least 18 years old, non-student employees of the California Community Colleges, and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

If you participate in this qualitative study, you will be asked to participate in a 90-minute interview in Fall 2025 and to exchange one letter with the researcher in Winter 2026. If writing and mailing a letter is not feasible, a Google Form is also available. Participants who complete the study will receive a $25 Target gift card by email.

Fill out the volunteer form.

Findings from the study will be used to provide recommendations on how to improve LGBTQIA+ supports at the local, district, and state level.

Direct your questions to me at hawkmc...@csu.fullerton.edu or to my committee chair, Dr. Christopher B. Newman at cbne...@fullerton.edu.

This study has been approved by the California State University, Fullerton Institutional Review Board (HSR-24-25-386).
