Subject: Asian Women Academic Librarians - Interview Invitation

Hi everyone – sharing this interview invitation from Mihoko Hosoi (mxh...@psu.edu)

Dear All:

I am conducting research on Asian women librarians in U.S. academic libraries to find out how they navigate their careers. I am currently recruiting interview participants who meet the following criteria:

·      Identify as women of Asian descent in the United States, regardless of their citizenship or immigration status, and

·      Work at academic libraries at colleges and universities in the United States, and

·      Either currently hold, held, or are interested in obtaining administrator positions in the future. Administrator positions typically have titles such as dean, associate dean, assistant dean, director, associate director, assistant director, university librarian, associate university librarian, and assistant university librarian. For individuals interested in obtaining administrator positions in the future, those who have been academic librarians for at least five years after obtaining relevant graduate degrees are invited to participate.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked about your background and career trajectory. The interviews will be conducted and recorded via Zoom and will take approximately 90 minutes. I will take notes and transcribe the recordings.

Participation in this research is voluntary and you have the right to decline to answer a question or end the interview at any point for any reason. Your responses will be kept confidential. All the responses will be de-identified. Penn State's Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved this study.

Findings from this study will shed light on the experiences of Asian women librarians as they seek promotions and leadership roles, raise awareness of the challenges faced by Asian women librarians, benefit the current and the future generation of Asian women library leaders as they navigate their careers, and inform academic library administrators in their efforts to foster support networks for this group.

If you have questions about this study, please contact the principal investigator, Mihoko Hosoi at mxh...@psu.edu. Dr. Alicia Dowd is my dissertation chair; Dr. Dowd can be contacted at acd...@psu.eduIf you would like to participate, please respond by email to set up a time at your earliest convenience. Please also feel free to forward this message to anyone interested.

Thank you for your consideration.
