Hello everyone,

I run the London SE1 website - http://www.London-SE1.co.uk - which has been going for 12 years now.

Earlier this year I was invited to join the Metropolitan Police's London Media Group which meets at Scotland Yard every few months to discuss relations between the Met and London's local papers/TV services/radio stations.

The chief press officer recognised that online-only local media is increasingly important and asked me to act as a representative of online publishers at the group's meetings.

The way the Met works means that each borough has its own communications arrangements which are at the discretion of individual borough commanders, so practice varies widely across London in terms of how local police relate to their local papers, let alone the emerging online scene.

Anyway, I'd welcome feedback from London website publishers - either as part of a session on Saturday or more informally - as to what sort of experience you've in dealing with the Met and what representations you'd like me to make on your behalf at next week's meeting of the London Media Group.

Looking forward to welcoming you all to SE1 on Saturday,

James

Interesting. Thanks James. There's a particular issue for how the Met relate
to local sites as I understand things.

hello all

I'd very interested in any feedback about this if a session takes place

we have been joined by the media officer of sussex police for each of the past 3 monthly meetings - of his own bat I think but def interested in exploring how we work together and what the links could be

he has also volunteered use of the central police station for hosting our monthly reporters meetup, which we're thinking of taking up in the new year, just to see how people react...

what I don't know is how this sits with day-to-day experience of the people doing the reporting and their relationship with the police - I do know that community support officers regularly post articles in local community newsletters and come to resident group meetings on estates where community development workers are active

<just another reason why I wish I could come this weekend>

In our case (Finsbury Park Online Project) we have a particular issue
as our area of benefit is divided between three boroughs -Islington,
Hackney, Haringey. So our area is only a small bit of each borough. As
the local newspapers also follow Borough boundaries, Finsbury Park
wide communication on anything is difficult.
