Dear Immortals,
Hope you all enjoyed the summer as much as I did.
LICH started as an idea on Jan 1, 2010 and became active by the same
month end with a humble start of a few close friends and a few new
members meeting up at Jalagam Vengal Rao Park.
A few days later Landmark Bookstore, Somajiguda associated with us and
we started having meets there...followed by another wonderful meet up
location Lamakaan, Banjara Hills.
The last few months have been a great learning experience with a few
ups and downs but filled with fun and enthusiasm all the same.
The initial meets were unstructured with broad topics, impromptu
discussions and also a mix of members from all age groups.
After one meet up with a turn out of nearly 45 members and open
impromptu discussions on a broad topic which turned the meet into a
noisy affair which left many of the adults wondering and the kids
wandering, we decided to separate the user groups by age and have
separate meet ups for kids.
For the adult meets we decided on a two way approach...we would take
up a broad topic and also one or two specific books related to that
topic and encourage members to come prepared to discuss on those
specific books at least and everything else related to the topic they
know/came across or learnt additionally.
March and April, we concentrated on kids meets because of kids
vacations and gave a break to adult meet ups. These were some of the
most memorable meets which I am sure not only the kids but also the
parents/adults who came along enjoyed a lot. The meets were on various
topics like wildlife, culture, folklore etc. and kids came up with
various activities like write ups, poems, presentations, quizzes,
puzzles, crosswords and so on. We began the summer vacation for kids
with rehearsing and performing a small play based on "The Lorax"...for
which the kids worked hard with zeal and gave an amazing performance
at the rehearsal show.
End of April, most of our regular members and myself were going out of
station for vacations so the group went on an unofficial break with
lack of organizers to have the meet ups in the regular members
absence.
Now that most of us are back in town and back to the regular routine
of life, its time we rekindle our literary, intellectual and cultural
aspects and have fun through our interactions and meet ups on a
regular basis.
So we begin with a meet up this Sunday, 11th of July at Lamakaan,
Banjara Hills, at 3:30PM, with a toast to the 6 months of our meets
that flew by...and an energized beginning to our future meets with a
little interaction, planning and bonding.
I would appreciate a more proactive participation from our members
rather than just being the audience...
I request all our members to do the following without fail, as it
would help our group to organize the meet ups in a better way:
...to promptly RSVP for a meet as to whether they would be coming or
not and the role interested in taking
...if not, the reason for their absence (topic not interesting, some
other work or any other reason)
...to answer the questions asked at the time of RSVP without fail.
...any ideas/suggestions for the current meet up which can be
implemented for the scheduled meet
...all those who attended, to give a detailed feed back on the meet up
immediately, with suggestions and ideas for improvement
...those who RSVP yes and did not turn up, the reason for their
absence
Try and answer at least some of the questions if not all as
"yes"...even if it is a "no" right now...try and turn it into a "yes"
before the meet up...
Inform what exactly you would be doing in advance...so that the meet
can be more planned and organized...
Try and make it to the meet on time...so that it doesn't disrupt the
ongoing meet and also doesn't affect the planned structure of the
meet...
Be a patient good listener in the bounds of the topic, with an
understanding, supportive and appreciative approach towards other
members during the meets...building a platform for a healthy, sensible
and more productive interaction...
Volunteers to organize:
The reason we did not have any meets in the past two months is...me
being out of station, most regular members going on summer vacation
and a lack of members who were ready to organize meets in our absence.
Hence I am looking forward to people taking up more responsibilities
especially in organization.
Invitations:
One of the basic reasons of having our club is to enjoy the company of
like minded people doing activities which we enjoy the most...hence
now on all literary, intellectual and cultural events happening around
the city is another opportunity for our members to experience as well
as bond...and it shall be listed on our site as a meet up to attend. I
request all the members to put up the links to any such events across
our city in the section (Vista) provided for the same in our
discussion boards and the event shall be scheduled as a meet up.

Using the ideas utility on LICH meet up site:
I request all to make use of the Ideas utility on the meet up
site...to suggest, support and initiate events

Connecting on twitter, facebook and Google etc:
There are quite a few social networking utilities like facebook,
twitter and Google applications which can help us communicate and
organize in a better way:

http://labs.google.co/...
http://groups.google/....
http://www.facebook.c/...
http://lich-hyd.blogs/...

I request all our members to join in through the above links, so that
we can communicate more efficiently.
Looking forward to seeing you all both online and offline...with more
active participation, zeal and contributions.
