Students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) are at higher risk of discrimination and psychological distress than their heterosexual and cisgender peers. Recent studies show LGBTQ students are:
• Three to four times more likely to report a suicide attempt in the last twelve months
• Five to ten times more likely to report experiencing discrimination (ie, racism, sexism, homophobia) that affected their academic performance*
To support these students many campuses have implemented programming that addresses harassment and bias, creating a climate where students feel safe, are willing to participate fully and are less likely to drop out.
Please join us for a free webinar to learn how two leading universities, The University of Massachusetts and The Pennsylvania State University have successfully established innovative programs to foster the success of LGBTQ students. Both schools have earned five stars, the highest possible rating, on the Campus Pride Index. The Campus Pride Index is the leading measurement tool to improve the quality of life for LGBTQ students on college
and university campuses and to assist campuses in becoming more LGBTQ friendly.
During this informative session the experts will share:
• The unique needs of LGBTQ students
• How to meaningfully connect with LGBTQ students
• Strategies to create a safer and more inclusive campus environment for your LGBTQ students
Panelists include:
• Genny Beemyn, Director, The Stonewall Center, The University of Massachusetts. Genny also coordinates the Trans Policy Clearinghouse for Campus Pride.
• Allison Subasic, Director, LGBTA Student Resource Center, The Pennsylvania State University. Allison also helped develop the Architect, an online LGBTQ how-to resource.
• Shane Windmeyer, Executive Director, Campus Pride.
Date: Tuesday, August 12 Time: 2:00 - 3:00 PM EDT
