Hello AZ LGBTQA Higher Education Network,

Please see below for a free webinar opportunity through Kognito on LGBTQ Youth in Schools. I have attended some of these webinars in the past and I would recommend them to others.

On another note, please be sure to send me reporting on any events or activities from January and February by next Wednesday, February 26th! This includes numbers of attendees at such events, or bigger picture things that aren't necessarily events (such as policy changes or form changes). While we collect this data every month, we were a bit behind from the Queering Arizona conference. If you are not sure whether you should be sending me reports or not, please get in touch with me

Thanks, have a great week!

Dear Educator, Provider, Advocate or Community Member:

As you may know, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning/queer (LGBTQ) youth can often face many unique challenges in our schools and communities that put them at statistically higher risk for social isolation, bullying, and suicidal behavior. The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network's 2011 National School Climate Survey found that 81.9% of LGBTQ students were verbally harassed (e.g., called names or threatened) in the past year because of their sexual orientation, and 63.9% because of their gender expression. A 2011 Delaware school survey indicated that 14 percent of 8th graders and 20 percent of 11th graders felt that they were bullied on school property.

Please join us Thursday, Feb 20, 2014 for an informative discussion about how Delaware addresses and responds to issues experienced by LGBTQ students.
