LAKE COUNTRY JUBILEE

CONCERT UPDATE

June 06, 2024

THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION CONTINUES!!

But first, as I start this, I’ve been watching President Ronald Reagan, and President Donald J. Trump deliver some of the finest speeches ever delivered. They’re honoring the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who stormed the beeches, and cliffs, of France marking 75th, and 80th Anniversaries of the allied invasion of Europe. Other battles were fought, such as the Battles of Midway, Guam, Okinawa, and so on, but that invasion was in a class by itself. My memory starts in early 1936, so these events are vivid in my memory. Thanks to Mewsmax for presenting, unedited, two of the finest speeches ever delivered!!

1936: THE YEAR GOSPEL EXPLODED!!

Gospel music had come to the United States from Eastern Europe as a different way of printing, and reading, called “Shaped Note Music.” In that form, each “tonal value” (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti) had a unique shape. The first book with that printing was published in Ohio in 1846. The first professional “Quartet” to sing this music was The James Vaughn Quartet in 1910 in Cleveland, Tennessee. The James Vaughn Quartet sang in J. Vaughn’s 250 watt radio station. But, it was in 1936, the year my family got our first radio, was also the year that The Stamps Quartet came on KRLD, and The Chuck Wagon Gang came on  WBAP, both local 50,000 watt signals!!! Later, The Stamps Quartet would also be rebroadcast on a 500,000 watt signal located just across the Rio Grande River in Mexico where that power is legal. From Dallas, gospel music could be heard over several states. And, on the 500,000 signal, it could be heard in almost all of the United States, and many foreign countries!! Almost overnight, gospel music became popular across “The Heartland!” Other music styles such as “Big Band”, Jazz, Blues, and many other music forms arose, and faded. But gospel music endured because it uniquely speaks to the “Human Condition.”
