Hello,

I was notified about overlapping areas, but none are displayed. I have turned on the VIEW-bad points.
I have attached the therm file, could someone kindly suggest a fix for this problem? I’d be very grateful!

There is an extra polygon under/next to one of your polyamide struts.

When you run boundary conditions and it tells you there is an overlap, look around the polygon ID that it indicates. Find this easily by going to Edit-->Select Special--> type in the polygon ID-->OK.  Delete it and surrounding polygons and you will uncover the problem.

Thank you everyone for being such great support for other THERM users!

I think it is amazing how well you all support each other. In many cases, because you use THERM so much, you are much better at helping each other than we are at LBNL

Thanks again !!

Hi all, thanks for your replys.

Hi Robin,

I met another error of the transom section. " Mesh generation error''... but I can not find any bad points. I attached the file.
Look forward to your reply.

This is a very complex file. I tried to delete as many extraneous points as possible, and it still won't mesh. I have attached the revised file, but it's not particularly useful.

I tried to eliminate all points that didn't need to be there. In many cases, polygons were drawn that introduced points to another polygon that weren't needed, so I changed how the polygon was defined, keeping the original geometry, but having points align with existing points in other polygons.

Because this file is so complicated, you might need to break it into 2 files, and do some sort of area-weighted average result to get a value for the entire assembly.

Maybe others can get this file to run, but I haven't had any success.

Hi Miao,
What is the value set for the Quad Tree Mesh Parameter in your program? Try to use 8.
The fixed file is attached.

Hi all,

I'd really appraciate your comments. The advices are quite useful!
I used 8 as the Quad mesh parameter. The challange is to make sinpler and less interfaced polygons according to the original detail.

Dear THERM Forum Community,

I hope this message finds you well.

I'm currently working on a thermal simulation using THERM and I'm encountering several "bad points" in my model. I’ve reviewed the geometry and tried to clean up intersections, but the issue persists.

Could anyone please explain:

  • What typically causes "bad points" to appear?

  • What are the best practices or steps to resolve them?

  • Are there any specific tools in THERM that can help identify or fix them more effectively?

Any guidance, examples, or documentation references would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!

See section 6.5.3. Voids, Overlaps and Bad Points, page 6-43 in the THERM7/WINDOW7 NFRC Simulation Manual, which explains how THERM determines bad points.
https://cdn.ymaws.com/nfrccommunity.org/resource/resmgr/simmanual/nfrcsim7-jul2024.pdf

In general they are points that are too close together -- the solution is to simplify the polygon so that there are fewer points and they are not close enough together to trigger this message.

If you provide the THERM file, I can explain why the bad points are being flagged.
