THERM 7.8.71.0
WINDOW 7.8.71.0
OPTICS 6.0

Hi,
Sorry if this is a duplicate message, I tried to post a little earlier and it didn't appear to go.

I'm having a problem when I hit the "Update IGDB" button in the Glass Library in WINDOW. It runs through it's calculating update progress bar and then displays this with a list of records scheduled for removal:

About to update IGDB version 104.0.0.
697 records will be added
442 records will be updated
499 records will be removed

When I continue, it runs for a bit and during the "Adding New Records" phase it throws up an error message "W7" that reads "WINDOW Failed to import Optics record." and if you hit OK, it just keeps throwing up the same message until it I give up and hit Cancel.

I've tried running with while THERM and OPTICS were closed, and I get the same thing.
I have the most recent IGDB version (104.0) installed.
How do I fix this error?
Thank you,
Jeremiah Burhite

This sounds like it could be a problem with permissions to write to the WINDOW database, although I am not sure.

One question is whether you are running WINDOW as Administrator. I don't know if that would make a difference, but it might be worth doing that if you are not already.

Also, what is the path of the WINDOW database you are trying to update?

It might be interesting to see how old the records are In the Glass library. In the Glass Library List view, sort by the "Source" column and see what the latest version has been updated, although the sort for the versions will put the >99 at the top of the sort list (sigh...)

Hi,

I am having a similar issue, although it says "Can't find the Optics standard file"
To answer the above questions:
  • Not running Window as an administrator, although that didn't used to be an issue
  • Path is C:\Users\Public\LBNL\WINDOW7.8\w7.mdb
  • IGDB database goes from v17.3 to v104.0

How to fix it?

I believe the original issue was because so many records were being updated at once.

In that case, I recommend just doing one action at a time, by unchecking the other 2. For example, uncheck the "records to be updated" and "removed", and leave the "records to be added" option checked. Let WINDOW do that update, and then start the update again, but just check the "records to be updated" option, etc.

However, this second issue does sound like a permissions problem, if the message is "Can't find the Optics standards file".

I assume this message is coming from Optics (not WINDOW).

Optics uses a file called "UseOptions.txt" for all the settings. That file is found here

C:\Program Files (x86)\LBNL\Optics6

Here are the contents of that file, where the various settings are. The path for the Standards file is

C:\Program Files (x86)\LBNL\LBNL Shared\Standards\

Shown here

So the first thing to do is to verify that the Standards folder is there, and then to verify that the correct standard is there, which in this case is

W5_NFRC_2003.std

And also, verify that you have permission to access the Program Files (x86) folder, which is one of the reasons to run Optics and WINDOW and Administrator.
