Documentary Film Screening
Crime after Crime tells the dramatic story of the legal battle to free Debbie Peagler, an incarcerated survivor of domestic violence. More than 26 years in prison could not crush the spirit of this determined woman, despite the wrongs she suffered—first at the hands of an abusive boyfriend who forced her into prostitution, and later by prosecutors who used the threat of the death penalty to corner her into a life behind bars as a result of her connection to her abuser’s murder.
Following the screening, join us for a Q&A discussion with the volunteer attorneys who fought on Debbie's behalf. Nadia Castro and Joshua Safran will discuss the roadblocks they encountered in navigating a domestic violence case and will share what we can do to promote a more just system in which these barriers to women’s health occur less and less.

Documentary Film Screening
Through first-hand accounts from teenage girls, to provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, Miss Representation uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see: the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence. The film features interviews with Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and Gloria Steinem and more.
Following the screening, join us for a Q&A discussion with Director and California Second Lady Jennifer Siebel Newsom who will discuss how mainstream media aids and abets in forming a skewed cultural perception of women. For more information, CLICK HERE.

PrettyHealthy Woman: Advancing Women’s Health through Media
Many of us have seen it. The photo of the all-male panel deciding the fate of women’s reproductive health earlier this year in a congressional committee hearing—but what can we do to change the picture? This panel discussion will investigate how our current sociopolitical and economic landscape lends itself to a climate that deprioritized and politicized women’s health issues and what we can do to address it. Join us for an evening with a multidisciplinary panel of crusaders in women’s media advocacy, and learn how to both identify and make use of unlikely opportunities in media to advance women’s health.
