Forus 👇In English, en français Photo: International Service for Human Rights   📢 Call for Applications – Training ahead of the 85th African Commission session Dear members, The International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) is organising an in-person training for African human rights defenders ahead of the 85th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). 📌 Application deadline: 25 August 2025 (midnight Banjul time) Purpose of the training To strengthen your knowledge and skills to strategically integrate the ACHPR into national-level advocacy, and prepare you to engage in advocacy activities during the session. 📅 When: October 2025 (before the ACHPR public session – exact dates to be confirmed) 📍 Where: Banjul, The Gambia (or other venue hosting the session) 🌐 Languages: English and French, with simultaneous interpretation 💰 Costs covered: Flights, accommodation, and meals Advocacy opportunities Participants will have the chance to: Engage with ACHPR Commissioners and Special Procedures mandates on human rights defenders, women’s rights, and business & human rights. Attend and contribute to panel discussions on key human rights challenges in Africa. Observe and contribute to State periodic reviews. Exchange with other defenders from across Africa and share advocacy strategies.   Participant profile Experienced African human rights defender from a CSO/NGO with at least 5 years’ national-level advocacy experience. Prior knowledge of the African human rights system. Motivation to integrate ACHPR mechanisms into national advocacy in a sustainable way. Active advocacy role within your organisation.
