Update as of 3:00 p.m. on March 14, 2024

NE 87th Street will be closed for a water vault and waterline installation. The closure will be along NE 87th St and 116th Ave NE between 114th Ave NE and NE 88th St (reference map below).

Resident access, as well as access of vital services such as emergency vehicle responses, deliveries, garbage service, etc., will be maintained by the contractor during the closure.

Full closure of NE 87th Street is anticipated beginning Monday, March 18 until May for work performed by WSDOT’s contractor Graham.

The work includes:

Installation of a new 24-inch water main down the center of NE 87th Street

Installation of a new water vault at the corner of NE 87th St and 116th Ave NE

The map below shows both the closure and detour routes.  The closure is the solid orange line. The detour route is the dashed green line.

To ensure that there’s enough space for two lanes of traffic along the detour, the contractor will place 24/7 temporary “no parking” signs for the duration of the closure along the detour:

South side of NE 88th St from 114th Ave NE to 116th Ave NE

East side of 114th Ave NE from NE 87th St to NE 88th St

Update as of 10:50 a.m. on March 15, 2024
The City of Kirkland is saying:

Full closure of NE 87th Street was originally anticipated to begin Monday, March 18.  However, this start date has been delayed.  The City does not have an update from WSDOT/Graham on a new start date.  The work is still anticipated to wrap up in May.
