Subject: Construction update: I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange closures in Kirkland, southbound I-405 closure in Bellevue, May 8-11
To: I405SR167Program <I405SR16...@wsdot.wa.gov>

Travelers are advised southbound I-405 will be closed in Bellevue and the I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange will be closed in Kirkland from May 8-11.  Crews will work on completing two new roundabouts on Northeast 85th Street as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project.

Kirkland closures
The I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange in Kirkland will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, May 8 to 4 a.m. Monday, May 11. Signed detours will be in place. Crews will shift traffic to a new roundabout on the freshly excavated Northeast 85th Street level.

The closure will include:

  • Northbound and southbound I-405 on-/off-ramps (Exit 18)
  • Both directions of Northeast 85th Street from 114th Avenue Northeast to 120th Avenue Northeast

Over the weekend, the 114th Avenue Northeast intersection will also be reconfigured into a roundabout using a temporary setup with signs and barrels. Construction of the 114th Avenue Northeast roundabout will continue over additional weekend closures this summer.

Beginning Monday morning, May 11, travelers will use two new roundabouts on Northeast 85th Street. Pedestrians will begin to use level two of the interchange, where Northeast 85th traffic was previously traveling while crews dug level one.

Southbound I-405 closure
Southbound I-405 between Coal Creek Parkway in Bellevue and North 30th Street in Renton will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 8 to 4 a.m. Monday, May 11. A signed detour along Coal Creek Parkway will be in place. Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will pave, excavate drainage crossings and complete a traffic switch as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project

The following ramps will be closed:

  • Coal Creek Parkway on-ramp to southbound I-405
  • Lake Washington Boulevard/Newcastle on-/off-ramps (Exit 9)
  • Northeast 44th Street on-/off-ramps (Exit 7)
  • Southbound I-405 off-ramp to North 30th Street (Exit 6)

Travelers are also advised of additional closures on northbound SR 99 across the First Avenue Bridge, northbound I-5 across the Ship Canal Bridge and eastbound SR 520 in Seattle occurring at the same time.

“Know before you go," and plan for delays. Travelers are likely to encounter congestion in areas they typically do not associate with freeway construction, including local roads and parallel routes.

Schedule updates will be available on the project webpages, WSDOT’s Travel Center map, the WSDOT mobile app and by signing up for King County email updates

Sincerely,

Lauren Penning
