In a letter obtained by the Citizen, Treasury Board President John
Baird says an Ontario proposal to stop paying drug claims for retired
bureaucrats over age 65 -- and have the federal government pick up the
tab -- creates "a second class of senior citizens" in the province that
will cost Canadians taxpayers millions.

FSNA up to expressing some concern on this issue?

Are we really second class citizens?

Are we up to expressing concern?
You bet we are!! As vice president of the branch, I've sent e-mails to
our local MPPs on behalf of the membership, as well, I've alerted our
members to the danger posed by Mr McGuinty and Mr Smitherman. The
response from the members has so far been good, but don't sit back and
rely on others. If the government is successful in its attack on this
benefit, it won't be long before they start sniping at others.
To all who read this, I urge you to express your displeasure by phone,
letter and e-mail.
Let them know that FSNA is a force to be reckoned with - now or later
at the polls!!

Just a bit more in the news illustrating the commitment of the Premier
and Minister of Health to the legitimate concerns of veterans and other
senior citizens.

"The Royal Canadian Legion's Ontario Command struggled fruitlessly over
the past year to resolve two pressing issues affecting not only
affecting veterans but all seniors in this province."

>From the web site of the Federal Superannuates National Association -

"FSNA's National President wrote to the Premier of Ontario to protest
against the proposal that would make the Ontario Drug Benefit Plan the
second payer for Ontario pensioners members of the PSHCP. If this
proposal is implemented, the pensioners' expenses for prescription
drugs will increase. As can be seen from the letter to the Premier of
Ontario, FSNA opposes this proposal vigourously."

The Ottawa Branch of the FSNA has started their response and it can be
seen on their web site.

"The Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care wants to increase
the out-of pocket medical expenses of Ontario FSNA members age 65 and
over. Clearly, if implemented, the measure would be both unfair and
discriminatory. The Ontario initiative affects you directly.

Please help us stop it now."

Look at the world around you, and you'll see God's creativity;

Look at the dinner table, and you'll see God's providence;

Look at the mirror, and you'll see God's sense of humor.

Ontario Government cancels plans to make the PSHCP first payer for drug
prescriptions
The Ontario Government will not implement a proposal that would have
made the Ontario Drug Benefit Plan the second payer for federal
pensioners who are members of the PSHCP.
