to Kevin`s English Schools
"To bring fun, friendship, and the joy of service back into teaching
English."

I was going to amalgamate what everyone said into one unified set of
aims, then I thought it was more
interesting and perhaps productive to be able to read what everyone
stated. Some of the aims overlap,
some are unique. But I think all can be incorporated into our program
at KES.

Kevin Burns says:

To have fun while learning English. The experience of learning at KES
should be fun for all. I subscribe to
the Patch Adams style of life and work, with David Letterman and Jay
Leno thrown in for spice. Teaching and
learning English at our schools, should be a fun adventure.

Let`s laugh and learn.

To give teachers the freedom to grow and become the teachers they were
meant to be. As opposed to
dictating what and how they shall teach.

To create an "at home" atmosphere, and with that a warm and cozy place
to work and study.

To help Japan become a little more international in scope and thinking.
To broaden our students minds.

To be good members of the community.

Ian Slesinger says:

My primary objective for the school is to help students become
well-rounded English speakers who can communicate effectively. A
secondary objective is to teach cross-cultural knowledge and
understanding that encourages students to become more global citizens.

In order to achieve these goals KES teachers will:

-Have respect for our students, our colleagues and ourselves.
-Be competent, thoughtful and enthusiastic in the classroom.
-Teach a comprehensive curriculum that include reading, writing,
speaking and listening.
-Expose students to different Anglophone cultures and cultural
practices, as well as other non-Anglophone cultures.
-Be accountable to our students, their parents and other staff. This
would include having clearly defined rules and
-Work on teacher development and be current in our field. We can do
this by analyzing our teaching practices, learning or inventing new
activities, reading EFL-related books, journals and websites, and
attending conferences and communicating with the larger EFL community.
-Capitalize on KES' smaller size to provide a more personal English
teaching experience than the larger schools can offer.

In addition to these goals, I suggest that we might consider branching
out to teach more English for Special Purposes. This could include
business English, English for medical practitioners, lawyers,
engineers, English for Academic Purposes, TOEIC, TOEFL and Cambridge
First prep etc.

Jonathan DeNardis says:

My objectives for this year are:

1. To condition myself both physically and mentally so that I become an
inspirational teacher and motivator.

2. To foster an attitude of mutual respect between the students and
myself.

3. To give the students a simple yet strong structural foundation in
English. A strong foundation shall consist of:

A. The ability to speak, read, and write the alphabet.

B. The ability to pronounce, read, write, and spell a large
vocabulary of words.

C. The ability to understand basic sentence structures.

D. The ability to read and understand books, short stories,
proverbs, and maybe a poem or two.

4. To give the students a clearly defined set of goals and objectives:

A. Therein that they know what is expected of them both as a group
and as individuals.

B. Therein that they be awarded as group and as individuals upon
completion.
