A reminder: The deadline for the Autumn, 2008, issue of Atlas Poetica : A Journal of Poetry of Place in Modern English Tanka is approaching.
Please send sequences and/or individual tanka, tanka with prose, mult-author tanka, essays, international resources, announcements, book notes, or anything else pertaining to tanka poetry of place to <
submi...@atlaspoetica.com> by 31 May 2008. International submissions are very welcome; please include an English translation with tanka or prose. However, announcements and book notes do not need to be translated.
We welcome traditional and innovative approaches to tanka, and are receptive to experimental works. We look for tanka that are grounded in 'place' whether it be the natural or the cultural place. A review of Atlas Poetica #1 will give a good idea what we are looking for, but we welcome new approaches to form and content as well. Full guidelines and the introductory editorial for issue #2 can be found at <
atlaspoetica.com>. Issue number one can be purchase through Modern English Tanka Press at <
lulu.com/modernenglishtanka>.
We would also like to draw readers attention to other journals of poetry of place (not tanka), and in particular recommend a recent essay in
Windfall which talks at length about the importance of place in literature with references to the Western canon <
http://www.hevanet.com/windfall/wf11/wf11_entwiningconcerns.pdf>.
Windfall is one of the important journals of poetry of place, and we hope that readers will enjoy the samples from its website.
Regards,
~K~
