Hi everybody,

There has been some question brought as to whether the CAB still
exists. I am operating from the standpoint that yes we do, although
in a somewhat suspended state. I suggested in Novemeber or December
that we should get together and talk about what is going on with the
strategic plan and got very little response. I guess this would be
another try?

Anybody want to try to get together soon? I think it would be a good
thing to talk about the strategic planning and the CAB's role both in
that and ultimately in the future.

If you didn't see it there was a blurb in the last Segue (available
electronically at kxci.org) and there will be a townhall coming up
soon - for sure we want good participation in that.

So shall we get together soon? The strat plan group meets again on
the 20th - CAB could meet before or after...then there will be a BOD
meeting soon, as well - I am pushing for doubling some of these, gas
is getting kind of outrageous...; )

Whew... seems like ages ago I got this, but am only now responding.

I guess I am thinking about a couple things....

1. The Strategic Planning process is really great, and an opportunity
to integrate CAB activities into the operations of the Station.

2. We are beginning discussions of what is necessary from various
interest groups in terms of the long-range planning we are doing. We
are making sure everyone stays aware that things like developing
relationships and outreach to underserved communities is necessary to
some degree in the short-term, but mostly as a long-term project,
which sits squarely in the heart of CAB responsibilities. We have yet
to achieve clarity, in my opinion, on where the lines are in such
distinctions. I feel that we DO need to meet, though only after there
is a draft set of responsibilities for the CAB in the short and long
term, so we can get your feedback and return that to the SP committee.

3. There is a strong sentiment that a Town Hall is necessary to
gather necessary feedback from the community. My sense is that the
strategic planning process needs to be open-ended enough to allow for
this feedback, regardless of whether it happens during the generation
of the Plan, or afterward (or both). Kali may be more clear than I
about when the Town Hall might be happening. I'm unsure as to the
precise purpose of the TH and when it might happen, in some respect
to the same issues in #2 above. I have expressed reluctance to just
do open-ended outreach without a sense of the implementation
strategies, and how we define the process by which we deal with the
intake. I think everyone was sensitive to not wanting to waste our
polling energies, especially without knowing exactly what we are
going to do with the advice from the community.

Not sure if this helps, but I guess for me, I want to meet when we
have something of substance to talk about...namely, the potential
upcoming short and long-term duties of the CAB and how we feel about
those. We might consider having Hank and Mary at this meeting.

Behind my exhaustion (of doing this for 3 organizations
simultaneously) I am very excited about the prospects.

Tony
