KXCI Temporary Power Decrease - December 19th & 20th

KXCIers,
Sorry this is coming post fact, but it was difficult to gauge when this was actually going to occur. Randy did post something about this to the blog, which helped immensely. In addition, just prior to the decrease on each of these days, KXCI announced that we would have to reduce power.
The question many of you have been asking is -- Why?

KUAT's digital antenna was destroyed by a lightning strike this past August. Upon acquisition of a new antenna, KUAT needed to have it installed. The problem was that inclement weather had already plagued the mountain. After being put off for some time and possibly even being delayed until Spring, KUAT went forward in an attempt to accomplish this as soon as possible. Even though this was frustrating for us, originally we were going to be effected for up to 7 days and possibly longer. It now looks like we might have gotten by with only two days. On Monday, they will start climbing again at 1:30 AM, but we will not need to turn down. I will keep everyone informed if something else comes up.
Just as an aside, here are the station effected besides us: KUAT-DTV, KUAT-NTSC, KUAT-FM, KGUN-NTSC, KGUN-DTV, KVOA-NTSC, KVOA-DTV, KOLD-DTV, KMSB-DTV, KTTU-DTV, KUVE, KXCI, KLTU.
(NTSC - is the analog television system / DTV - is the digital television system)
This is one of the least fun jobs in radio. We needed to power down so as to not harm the guys who have to do the climbing (and believe when I say that the climbing is not fun).
Please feel free to pass this along to friends and listeners of KXCI. It might help alleviate some of the frustration listeners have had over the past week.
Also, if you have questions, just ask. I love the technical side of stuff and if I can't answer it I know someone who can!
