My William Blake-inspired short story "Eating the Dream" has received
the FEMSPEC: The Best of the Second Five Years first prize in fiction.
They're going to announce the prizes at the Popular Culture
Association Conference in San Antonio (where I'll be) and also at
Wiscon. FEMSPEC also gave prizes for criticism, memoir and poetry. A
big party has been planned to celebrate. Congratulations to all the
winners!

My voodoo-zombie-western short story "High Plains Lazarus" placed in
the top ten of the Preditors & Editors Readers Poll for horror short
stories. That one can be found in the Pill Hill Press anthology
ROTTING TALES.

Other good news is that I have my ticket to Rome for spring break
where I will be staying with the fabulous Alessandra. I can't wait!
I've never been to Italy. So tell me your useful Italian phrases and
recommendations! With luck I will take some pictures and videos to
share.

My alter ego Kit Marlowe has been busy, too, talking about making book
trailers at Tease Publishing's blog [http://
teasepublishing.blogspot.com/2011/02/kit-marlowe-making-book-
trailers.html] and she'll be reading from The Mangrove Legacy for the
Tuesday Talking Teaser this coming week over at JoJo's Books where I
was recently myself [http://jojosbookcorner.blogspot.com/2011/01/aad-
meet-and-greet-author-k-laity-ttt.html]. Kit was the Friday Guest at
Isabel Roman's blog, too [http://authorisabelroman.blogspot.com/
2011/02/friday-guest-kit-marlowe.html].

On Tuesday I'll be giving away a one-of-a-kind Mangrove Legacy mug! Be
sure to drop by JoJo's Book Corner for a chance to win. If you want a
preview of my Tuesday Talking Teaser, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSjaDMZTZZk

I hope to have news about a non-fiction book soon, too. Keep your
fingers crossed for that (and for Ireland -- still waiting to hear on
the Fulbright).

Thanks for your support!
