1979-a bit in the future.  death watch is a reality tv show, the cameras follow dying folk.

roddy is a camera man/reporter for the show.  he agrees to an experimental procedure.  his eyes are surgically altered to become camera lenses, what he sees is instantly transmitted to the studio.  he must always have some light-this is important.

 

katherine is young, pretty and a fairly famous author.  she's been told she has terminal cancer.  even though she hasn't agreed to it there are ads trumpeting her as the next death watch star.  they have already begun filming her without her knowledge.  her doctor is in on the whole dirty deal.

she finally agrees to it, mainly because, although he denies it, her current husband wants the money.

 

after getting half the money in cash and giving ti to her husband she runs away.  roddy tracks her down and strikes up a friendship.  they hit the road together.  katherine wants to visit her 1st husband.  roddy is filming everything.

 

this was an intelligent, interesting movie  good characters.  good dialogue-it was very "wordy"  well told, somewhat morbid tale/

some nice plot twists.  at least one i kind of saw coming, couple others not so much.

although we don't have such reality show yet i do not think the way newsies cover such stories today is far too far removed.
