SUMMARY:
NextGen Climate is seeking a dynamic and creative political professional to join our Youth Organizing Program, that will engage young people in local and national fights to prevent climate disaster and promote prosperity for all Americans. This role will be focused on managing the field components of an ambitious youth organizing effort across several battleground states.
This effort will focus on organizing young people in targeted cities and campuses to engage young in the political process, organize actions to hold federal and local office-holders accountable, and execute 2018 electoral work. This role is located in San Francisco and reports to the Director of the Youth Organizing Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Steers organizing strategy and field operations in multiple states and on hundreds of college campuses
Manages state youth field directors responsible for crafting campaign strategy, overseeing field teams and hitting state goals through youth organizing on target campuses and in cities
Oversees a campus fellowship of part-time student fellows to organize and mobilize their peers
Assist in long-term youth program planning, including in the lead up to the 2018 elections
Accountable to national youth organizing goals and ensuring accurate and concise data entry and reporting for the field program
Reports to National Youth Program Director and coordinates consistently with internal political and communications departments
Manages a headquarters staff including a part-time election data specialist and full-time national training director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
6+ years of field organizing, managing, and training field staff, including at least one cycle of experience managing a statewide voter contact effort
Experience managing field managers is highly valued
Very well organized; excellent written, verbal and presentation communications skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and outside organizations and be able to multi-task without sacrificing quality of work
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment
Familiar with field tools, including VAN
BONUS POINTS:
Experience with both issue and electoral organizing
Experience organizing in communities of color and prior training in anti-oppression, equity and inclusion organizing
Experience working on youth organizing programs
