Dear Friend,
Did any of y’all have “attacking women” as the theme of the week on your bingo cards? While I was initially happy that it seemed like the world was calming down when I noticed the major topic across all my timelines was Taylor Swift’s new album, upon further reflection I couldn’t help but notice some of the conversations were just rude. And to be clear, I am not a Swiftie. I have not listened to the album. But apparently I’m foolish in thinking people can critique a new release without resorting to pure misogyny.
Then I began noticing a concerted effort to take down California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter. The headlines are brutal, but having been in this political game for longer than I care to say aloud, I can clearly see she’s being held to a standard that’s significantly higher than her male counterparts.
As the shutdown continues to be the ball in a game of political football, I hope you all are taking care of yourselves.
