Dear Bakarapet Hasher
You see I've been through the jungle on a hash with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In Bakarapet you can remember your name
cause there aint no one for to give you no pain
A big Thank You for having participated in the 5th Edition of Jazz in the Jungle. Whatever the role you played - host, chef, hare, dj, drunk, whatever - you added to the ambience which everyone enjoyed.
Many of us returned to a very early night on Monday to wake up stiff and sore on Tuesday. A frantic day catching up with work and mail, and then finding oneself with a tea/coffee (or is it still beer for Shrunken Joe) on Wednesday morning helping some of the scabs that formed over the scratches earned on the trails fall off.
The 1st Edition of J-in-the-J had Run 2 at Talakona. On that occasion, we had a false trail along a creeper that was 5 km long, a waterfall said to guarantee a "hit" if a song sequence is picturised around it, and a steep climb to the top of the waterfall where the remnants of a cottage remind you of an old hindi film.
This time the very different Talakona trail took us through what Vishnu described as Rogue Elephant territory. The elephants created havoc in the nearby villages a few months ago. He was a bit surprised that the forest department let us run there. The department must have figured that a bunch of mad (or should that read Madras?) hashers is sure to clear any space of rogue elephants.
Very few of you responded to the earlier emails on T shirt sizes and choice of music. In spite of that the t-shirt fit this year has been better than ever before, with almost everyone ok with what they finally got. Since we will start with the same list of participants for next year, you may want the spreadsheet updated to reflect your correct size, incase you had to exchange your set for another.
On music too, please send in your suggestions while your memory is still fresh. One impression is that for Day 0 (Friday) full blown Jazz and Blues goes well, for Day 1 (Sat) a mix of Jazz and Rock concert videos, and for Day 2 (Sun) we can skip the video, and have music to dance to for the most part, while still photos of the weekend are screened. Please mail in your thoughts.
Finally, it will be really nice if some of you wrote a piece on the weekend. You can address the email to jazz-in-t...@googlegroups.com The ones with cameras should upload a selection of the photos on to Flickr or Kodakgallery and send a link.
