Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8th, for the January JavaMUG meeting

Abstract
In this session, you'll discover how RAG allows you to build intelligent systems using nothing but tools you're already familiar with: APIs and databases. You'll learn how the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pattern makes it possible for you to combine pre-built Large Language Models (LLMs) with your data (using Vector Databases) to build intelligent systems. You'll leave with the conceptual knowledge and the code necessary to catch the AI wave today. Let’s bring the power of RAG to your applications!

Speaker
Jacob Orshalick is a Consultant and Founder at Focus DEV Solutions

With over 2 decades of software development experience and 15 years of that spent as an independent consultant, I have no backup plan. I'm a developer at heart and always will be. I love to speak about, write about, and build software that solves real business problems.

In early 2023, ChatGPT had recently been released, tech firms started laying off thousands, and rumors swirled that AI would replace developers. It looked like the writing was on the wall and it was time to pivot to data science! Well, it turned out LLMs write really buggy code and tech firms had simply over-hired, but who knew at the time?

The mathematics of data science seemed incredibly dull to a programmer like me, but pre-built LLMs were accessible through APIs! The more I learned, the more comfortable I became building intelligent systems with LLMs without a data science background. Now I'm teaching other developers how instead of fearing the machine, they can feed it with tools they already know and love.
