To: jnu_vision <jnu_v...@googlegroups.com>

Dear All,
Greetings from JNU Visually Challenged Students Forum- Jawaharlal
Nehru University, New Delhi/110067.
As you all know, The JNU visually challenged Students forum is a
non-registered voluntary body which is constantly engaged in making
JNU as the paragon of accessibility, inclusivity and sensitivity
towards the needs of students with disabilities. From the past 15
years, we have managed to bring the disability perspective into the
mainstream discourse of our campus. Carrying on with the legacy, this
year as well, our forum in collaboration with the JNU Equal
Opportunity Office is planning to celebrate white cane day on
15/10/2019.
As part of the Celebration, we are collaborating with the UN
Volunteers and Nipman Foundation for organizing a “Youth Dialogue on
Disabilities” from 2 PM to 5 PM, in Room No. 344, SIS-2 building. The
purpose of this event is to create an interactive space where
university students will get a chance to talk about Transforming
higher education from the perspective of ‘inclusivity and equality’.
The outcome of these dialogues will be compiled in a short report
presentation titled “My Inclusive College”, which will document the
concerns and suggestions raised by youth on disability in the higher
education space and will be presented at the United Nations Office on
3rd December 2019 on (World Disability Day).
In the evening session, We are planning to take out White Cane
Awareness march from Ganga dhaba to Sabarmati lawn via Sutluj and
Godavari Hostels on 15th October from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. In order to
mark the Occasion, We are also planning to distribute white canes
provided by ‘Save the Quest’ to our visually impaired students in the
inaugural ceremony, which will be distributed by the Dean of students,
Mr. Umesh Kadam. In the post-march gathering at the Tapti Mess from
9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, we are organizing a panel discussion on “Advocacy
for Disability Rights: Perspectives of Civil Society Organizations”.
This will be followed by some spectacular cultural performances from
our Forum members.
*Come, join us* to create an interactive space where university
students will get a chance to learn and discuss what disability
inclusion means, engage with their peers and experts with
disabilities, and work towards creating inclusive and equitable
environment in our educational institution.
