Hello everyone,
For the fall semester and beyond, Bingnan Kang will no longer be the
president. We all give her thanks for her services. The new club
officer positions are as follows:
President: Allen Yu
Vice President: Kevin Huang
Treasurer: Derek Ho
Secretary: Derek Sing
As the new school year is just around the corner, there are a few
announcements in queue.
Practice times are still in the Robert Scott Gymnasium:
Tuesday and Thursday:
Open Badminton: 4-6 PM
Club Practice 6-8 PM
Friday:
Club Practice 8-10 PM
Note: We have always had this practice time. However, GRO volleyball
precedes it and they usually go at 8 to play, even though their time
is at 6. I have tried talking to them, but their members are
scattered. They usually have around 10-12 people, so you need to kick
them off the court, I suggest you get about 4 people to do it. I just
couldn't bring myself to exile them with just 2.
Saturday and Sunday:
Open Badminton: 11AM-1PM
Club Practice: 1PM-4PM
Currently, club practice times can be used for open badminton. This
will last until team practice schedules are set.
Another comment about practice times: I have noticed that there has
been a recent influx of freshman between 4-6. About 7-10 come at that
time, as shown by the lack of rackets that can be borrowed from the
equipment room. They take up the courts quite quickly, so if you want
to play at that time, I suggest you go early or you might have to wait
a while.
This year, we plan on forming a team to take to intercollegiate
tournaments to represent Hopkins. We are currently a member of the
IBA, but we rarely play against other schools. There will be at least
4 members, but there is not a set number of positions yet. Tryout
information is as follows.
There will be an Opener Tournament held on the 27th of September,
Saturday. More information on it will soon follow. This tournament
will also be used as a means of recruiting members to the team. Thus
in addition to being an opener tournament, this will be used as
tryouts as well. However, only those who are interested will be
considered. Should you be interested, email me with your name, email
address, and event (Mens/Women's Singles/Doubles or Mixed) to
all...@jhu.edu with Tryouts in the subject line.
The Badminton Club has dedicated webspace on the jhu server, and thus
a new website! Although it is still under construction, it is expected
to be up and running by Thanksgiving. URL:

Although Google Groups is a good way to communicate, some people don't
subscribe to it, and you may get posts that aren't exactly of great
importance. Thus, this year we will be using the ACM mailing list to
send out emails to the club and team about upcoming events. Google
Groups will still be online, so the discussions and etc. will still be
available. In order to subscribe to the mailing list, send me an email
and I will reply in the coming days with instructions on how to
subscribe. Furthermore, we will be cleaning house so that members that
haven't logged on for an extended period will be deleted.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the court!
DON'T FORGET to email for your subscription or tryouts if applicable.
-Allen
