to JHU Badminton Club
Hi Everyone,
A new school year has just begun and with this, badminton club is
under new management.
The president is now Sean Gao, the Vice President is Allen Yu, and the
Secretary is William Chung.
Our play times are the similar, but note that there are two separate
play times.
Open play is for anyone affiliated with Johns Hopkins, while TEAM play
is only for badminton Team members. If you want to tryout for the
team, then you can come to one of the team play times and we will
decide team membership there (more on team membership below). The
Badminton Team may not meet at all of the times alloted to them by the
gym and this happens, then the courts are free for open play. However,
if the badminton Team is present during their alloted times, then we
will ask anyone who is not part of the team to step off the courts.
OPEN play times are:
Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4pm-6pm
Saturday and Sunday from 11am-1pm.
Badminton Team play times are:
Tuesdays & Thursdays 6pm-8pm
Saturday and Sunday 1pm-3 pm.
Team Tryouts:
Membership into the badminton Team will be decided by the
executive board of badminton club (me, will, and allen). What we are
looking for is not your level of play, but the your commitment to
improving your badminton skills. Players of any skill level can be
accepted into the team IF they show that they are motivated to get
better and listen to the coaching advice that will provided by the
board members.
More about Badminton Team and Team play hours:
Time alloted for badminton team will be used for running
drills lead by either me, allen, or
will, and for playing games. Practices will usually follow
the following routine:
- Warm Up Cardio
- Stretching
- Hitting Drills
- Scrimmage Games
Other Notes about badminton Team:
- Members of the badminton Team will be provided birdies.
- We can take approximately 15 people for the team this year
(but its flexible)
- We're aiming to participate in Maryland Opens in the
spring. Also, we're planning a fall open tournament at JHU on a
weekend in October. In addition, we have connections with other
schools (CP, UMBC) and we may plan trips to play against them.
If you have any questions email me at badminton AT jhu DOT edu
* note AT = the AT symbol, and DOT is a period; this is to stop spam
