Hi Everyone,
I've been noticing that there has been a lack of courtesy on the
courts during OPEN play.
Although the badminton TEAM doesn't technically have authority over
the OPEN play times, I'm asking you out of common decency to be
considerate of other players.
Here are some general guidelines that should be followed if there are
people waiting to play:
Please limit your play time to less than 20 minutes.
You should be able to play two games of doubles
in that time period.
If you're not playing a game, please stop
playing after 20 minutes.
When you're done your game, let the person that is waiting
know that you're done.
If you don't know how long you've been playing for, try to
wrap up within 5 minutes or 10
points of a game
If you're waiting to play, you should ask when the people who are
playing are going to be done. Sometimes people don't notice you on the
sidelines so they won't think that they're being inconsiderate by
playing for long periods of times. You should alert the people playing
of your presence. Try to politely talk to them when they are in
between points.
Also, I've noticed that badminton club has been increasingly cliquey
with the Chinese graduate students who basically refuse to play with
anyone other than themselves. They tend to dominant the court times
and may be deterring people who are interested in badminton from
playing. In general, I would ask everyone to be more open about who
they play with.
If you're an individual and you show up during badminton time, but
find no one else willing to play for you, you can come to the
badminton TEAM times where we will be more than happy to welcome you
if you put in effort to improving.
If there are any issues or conflicts over court play, I will try to
moderate them. Just email me at: badminton AT jhu DOT edu.
