Dear All,

Maruzen, a pioneer of western book importers established in 1869 (meiji 2), re-published its Shashi “Maruzen Hyakunenshi” on the internet by PDF at http://pub.maruzen.co.jp/index/100nenshi/index.html

We should think about seriously how to preserve online shashi soon.  Please give us idea.

Hiro

Hi All:

Your timing is amazing on this because I was just composing a note to you all asking for an update.  NCC is reapplying to the JUSFC for our next round of funding and want to be able to report on the Shashi transition.  We will also be reapplying to Japan Foundation in the fall.  It might be possible to include a shashi component in the JF request, but as you know, that is always a pending issue.

Hiro, I must have the JUSFC in their hands on July 1st so if you guys can send me an update by sometime in the next week or so, I will include it.  Thanks so much.  Vickey

I am just thinking out loud to provoke our discussions.

I am wondering if we collectively as a group to ask NDL to ensure those shashi sites to be included in their WARP project. I believe since they are private company sites, NDL has to get their permission to archive the sites. That makes NDL feel uneasy. Although I would believe that most of the companies would feel honored to be archives, some might be reluctant. But maybe the Shashi group can be an advocate to persuade reluctant companies?

Hi All:

Tokiko's query made me think again about the notice I posted yesterday on NCC's Facebook page encouraging people to sign the Pisa Declaration on Grey Literature.  It was forwarded by GreyNet the international society for research and preservation of grey literature, of which Shashi is/are a very important part.  Are any of you guys following GreyNet?  I wonder if there is a way to use the Pisa Declaration or GreyNet itself to promote greater awareness and agreements on conservation of Shashi as Tokiko mentioned?  The declaration itself does not zero in on Shashi per se, unfortunately, but I thought it might be useful in this.  Some of you may want to add your names to the electronic signing of the declaration too, if you have not already done so?  Best, V
 .
