What is "JASC Presents" (JP)?
The “JASC Presents” student discussion panel series is a program
designed to continue the academic discussions and cultural exchange
that take place during the Japan-America Student Conference by
extending our conversations to local communities in both countries.
Our hope is that by sharing the new ideas and insights that students
have gained through their participation in JASC, we can take a step
closer to achieving our goal of impacting society and spreading our
results beyond the boundaries of the conference itself.
Launching this year, "JASC Presents" will strive to fulfill a multi-
faceted mission, including reflecting upon our conversations during
the conference, inspiring the next generation of delegates and
providing a venue for young alumni to help support the goals of JASC.
Our official mission is as follows:
Mission: The “JASC Presents” mission consist of four main elements:
1. To support the goals of the Japan-America Student Conference by
presenting and reflecting upon the fruits of our academic discussions
during the months between conferences
2. To enrich local communities through the exchange of ideas and
cultural values
3. To expose local students to the goals and ideals of JASC in order
to attract and inspire a future generation of delegates
4. To further promote and enhance the reputation of JASC as a means of
aiding recruitment and other efforts of the JASC EC.
The “JASC Presents” series would consist of several small-scale
discussion / presentation-style events taking place in Japan and
America, each featuring a panel of 3 t0 5 recent JASCers and a
professorial keynote speaker. In our first year, we plan to hold JASC
Presents events in Boston, Hiroshima and Kyoto, encompassing a wide
range of themes prevalent in the most recent JASC. Each event will
take place in early 2009, featuring a panel of recent alumni as well
as a keynote speaker.
Why the "JASC Presents" Alumni E-Forum?
By creating a communication hub for young alumni, the "JASC Presents"
Alumni E-Forum allows us not only to share our thoughts but also to
build a network of ideas that can shape the direction of "JASC
Presents" events and incorporate many more JASCer voices than would
otherwise be possible. We invite everyone to:
1. Propose and respond to themes and issues relevant to Japan-U.S.
relations and mutual understanding (think of this as E-Special Topics)
2. Post comments and suggestions for future JASC Presents themes,
locations, speakers, etc.
3. Share your ideas on new ways to accomplish the mission of JASC
Presents and spread the goals of the Japan-America Student Conference
to the community at large.
Please include your name and JASC year in all posts. Thank you for
joining, and we all look forward to getting the conversation started!
In JASC Spirit Always,
