The Association for the Study of African American Life and History is
soliciting papers for its 91st Annual Conference. We especially
invite submissions that develop our annual theme of the role of black
sororities and fraternities, social, and civic institutions in African
American life and history. Along with marking the 100th Anniversary
of the founding of Alpha Phi Alpha, ASALH is also keenly interested in
panels on the Club Women's Movement. More generally, we welcome
submissions on black civic organizations such as the Urban League, the
NAACP, SCLC, PUSH, CORE, and 100 Black Men, and social organizations
such the Links and Jack and Jill.
While the theme focuses on black institutional life, the academic
conference, as always, accepts submissions on all phases of Black life
and history in Africa, the United States, and other parts of the
African Diaspora. Moreover, we gladly welcome panels in disciplines
other than history, especially if they have a historical dimension.
ASALH will begin accepting proposals on October 31st, 2005. The June
15th deadline has been extended. All papers accepted by July 15th will
appear in the printed program. All program participants must be current
members of ASALH and must register for the conference. Payments for
both can be transacted at our web-site.
ASALH accepts only electronic submissions. For information on how to
submit papers and on the Atlanta convention, please visit:
