I am afraid that we may end up having wasted a hard-earned opportunity to jump-start our new organization.  Here are the steps I see as most urgent:

1) Claudia
Kawczynska, editor of The Bark, has said she would like to do a story on our movement. This  is a huge break for us, and we should not let it slip away. Claudia couldn't attend, so we have to make ourselves available for interviews. Please send your telephone number and/or email and/or comments to. cla...@thebark.com

2) Fill out the online community assessment form so that I can start building a database. I've posted the survey and the first results at dog-friends.org.

3) Fill out and return Diane West's survey, so that she can decide whether and how to proceed with the Dog Park annual.

4) We need to form a steering committee for the new organization. If you are willing to take part, please let me know.

5) The IthacaConference google group will likely become defunct, which is okay,  but we should switch to the new dogfriends group that I have set up already -- you can join from dog-friends.org. Unlike the current group, the new one will be on a daily-digest basis -- we will not be flooding your inbox.

Now is not the time to sit back and wait for someone else to make things happen. Let's roll!

This group may go quiet (make it moderated and refuse to allow things
through? don't allow posts?)

But ... will the information and threads still be available? I think
it would be quite useful!
(I've been a lurker, sorry! - good job all, and good luck moving
forward)

I did not mean that I was going to pull the plug on this google group -- just that, without all the pre-conference blah-blah, there wasn't much going on. I also thought that the name "DogFriends" makes more sense for an organization than "IthacaConference."

About Diane West's survey, yes - I guess it was distributed only at the conference. Perhaps she would like to post it online, either at newyorktails.com or dog-friends.org?

I've been posting the community assessment data. If you sent me one, please check to see that it has not been overlooked, and that I have correctly entered your answers. Note that the draft of the questionnaire originally posted on the IthacaConference site had questions totalling 105 points; on the new version (posted also on dog-friendly.org, I cut the value of a 10 point question to 5 points, and pro-rated the responses on those surveys I had received with the 105-point maximum. I forget which question it was, but I'll look for the earlier draft and post that the explanation of the change tomorrow.

Meanwhile, if you have not completed the survey for your community, please do - - and please try to get as many others to do so as possible. The data that I am posting is in most cases based on one respondent per locale; that's not very good data, but I'm hoping you will make an honest man out of me by recruiting more respondents.

Did I miss this online, or was it only for those who went to the in-person
conference?

Thanks,
