Last year, Ithaca Dog sponsored the conference "Planning for a Dogfriendly Community."  This month, on Saturday April 28th, a follow-up event is being held in Morristown, NJ hosted by MARDOG. The conference will be educational with prominent and influential speakers from around the country including New York, New Jersey, Virginia and California.  Sponsors include Petsmart Charities, Best Friends Animal Society and The Canine Fence Co.

Some of the presenters include:
  • Bob Marino from NYCDog.org (which fought and won the good fight in New York)
  • Claudia K. (publisher of The Bark)
  • Sue Sternberg (nationally recognized behaviorist and runs a shelter in upstate New York State)
  • Dr. Brian Voynick, Host of "The Pet Stop" and veterinarian with American Animal Hospital
  • Dr. Dean Gebroe, Culver City Dog Park and veterinarian with Culver City Animal Hospital
  • Becky Halbe, Trustee, ArlingtonDogs
  • Alison Deeb Olszewski, Founder and President, MARDOG
And many more dog park advocates and groups!

The cost is $60 per person and includes breakfast, lunch and all talks. There will be lots of interesting talks (including a session on fundraising and canine behavior), as well as infectious enthusiasm. One of the highlights is a session on canine communication and behavior followed by a field trip to the dog park. The location is special as the conference facility is a two minute drive to the dog park (a 20 minute walk). Sorry, no dogs are allowed inside the conference facility but of course they can romp at the 1.26 acre-dog park nearby!

The National DOG conference is being held at the Morris County Cultural Center, 300 Mendham Road, Morristown on Saturday, April 28, 2007 from 8:00am
to 6:00 pm. Sorry, no dogs are allowed inside the Conference facility.  Space is limited so preregistration is advised!

An important objective of the National DOG Conference will be to establish a national nonprofit association of off-leash areas (OLAs) to ensure the success of dog parks, support the existence of dog parks, and help those who want to build dog parks.

Pssst! Don't miss it!
